LOS RUBÍES DE LA ESPÍA
Estamos en la semana del rubí, color rojo, intenso, pasión y lujuria, así que he decidido festejar mi cumpleaños, el día de hoy con esta joya que perteneció a esta increíble mujer.
El espectacular collar con broche de rubíes y diamantes desmontable, fue diseñado por María Aline Griffith Dexter, condesa viuda de Romanones, y realizado por el joyero madrileño Luis Gil en los setenta, y en ese mismo año fue lucido en la inauguración de Puerto banús que contó entre otros invitados con la presencia de SS.AA.SS. los príncipes Grace y Raniero de Mónaco y de S.A. el príncipe Karim Aga-Khan.
Formado por 4 grupos de cuentas de rubíes, conectadas entre sí, por un elemento floral con centro de rubí y argollas íntegramente pavé de diamantes culminan en un interesante rubí talla cabochon en doble orla de diamantes.
El medallón convertible en broche, repite el diseño de flor del collar, ocho veces, más estilizado y cada uno de ellos con un rubí abrazan a un rubí con orla de diamantes, brillantes solitarios alternan a lo largo de toda la pieza.
“Me deshago de ellas porque ya no hay sitios a donde ir con ellas. Hoy en día, te sientes incómoda con joyas exageradas, porque parece que presumes. Por tanto, ¡prefiero el dinero! ¿Para qué las quiero si van a estar guardadas? Además, no tengo hijas para que las usen. Mis nietas visten modernas, con esos pantalones…Y cuando les he preguntado, dicen que esas joyas son cosas de vieja”, ha dicho recientemente la condesa en una entrevista al periódico El Mundo.
También de la condesa de Romanones se vendió una sortija formada por un rubí talla almohadón rodeada de brillantes y un par de pendientes de rubíes y diamantes talla brillante, navette y baguette, un modelo de los años que lucía llevar con otro collar, que seguramente fue dado como parte del realizado por Gil.
Estos rubíes al igual que las esmeraldas provienen del tesoro de Anita Delgado, Maharaní de Kapurtala, fueron comprados por Luis de Figueroa y Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno, esposo de Aline, ya que la madre de este nunca aprobó la unión de su hijo, no dejó ninguna de sus joyas para este.
Como buen caballero español, el conde salió en socorro de su esposa colmándola de bellísimas piezas que Aline no dudo en lucir en sus apariciones públicas, alrededor del mundo.
THE RUBIES OF THE SPY
We are in a ruby week, red, intense color, passion, and lust, so I have decided to celebrate my birthday today with this jewel that belonged to this incredible woman.
The spectacular necklace with a detachable ruby and diamond brooch was designed by María Aline Griffith Dexter, Dowager Countess of Romanones, and made by the Madrid jeweler Luis Gil in the seventies, and that same year it was worn at the inauguration of Puerto banús that counted among other guests with the presence of SS.AA.SS. Princes Grace and Rainier of Monaco and of S.A. Prince Karim Aga-Khan.
Made up of 4 groups of ruby beads, interconnected by a floral element with a ruby center and fully pavé diamond hoops culminating in an interesting cabochon-cut ruby with a double diamond border.
The medallion, convertible into a brooch, repeats the flower design of the necklace, eight times, more stylized, and each of them with a ruby that embraces a ruby with a diamond border, brilliant solitaires alternate throughout the entire piece.
“I get rid of them because there are no places to go with them anymore. Nowadays, you feel uncomfortable with exaggerated jewelry, because it seems that you show off. Therefore, I prefer money! Why do I want them if they are going to be saved? Also, I don’t have daughters to use them. My granddaughters dress modern, with those pants… And when I have asked them, they say that those jewels are old things”, the countess recently said in an interview with the newspaper El Mundo.

The Countess of Romanones also sold a ring made up of a cushion-cut ruby surrounded by diamonds and a pair of brilliant-cut rubies and diamond earrings, navette and baguette, a model from the years that she wore with another necklace, which was surely given as part of the one made by Gil.
These rubies, like the emeralds, come from the treasure of Anita Delgado, Maharani of Kapurthala, they were bought by Luis de Figueroa and Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno, husband of Aline, since his mother never approved of the union of her son, not she left none of her jewelry for this one.
As a good Spanish gentleman, the count came to her wife’s aid by showering her with beautiful pieces that Aline did not hesitate to wear in her public appearances around the world.
